Founded in 1970 as the Maitland Historical Society, the Maitland History Museum has long been dedicated to preserving the unique heritage of one of Central Florida’s oldest municipalities.
Over the decades, the museum’s collection has grown to reflect the everyday lives and extraordinary stories of Maitland’s residents. From work and family life to love, loss, and creativity, each artifact on display offers a tangible connection to the people who shaped the town’s evolving identity.
The museum’s permanent exhibition, Maitland’s Attic, invites visitors to explore the town’s layered history through an eclectic array of objects, photographs, and ephemera. Highlights of the exhibition include stories of Florida’s earliest Indigenous inhabitants, the founding of Maitland and nearby Eatonville, the rise of the citrus industry, the formation of the Florida Audubon Society, and the creation of Jules André Smith’s visionary Research Studio.
